Frequently Asked Questions

What is a coach?

A coach helps people formulate, set and achieve meaningful goals and to envision and create a rich fulfilling life for themselves. The coach’s role is supportive, collaborative and tailored to each individual client’s needs. Paradoxically coaching seems to work best when we can accept exactly where we are now whilst simultaneously knowing what needs to change. Coaching helps both those who are successful but want more and those who feel stuck and/or want to make a fresh start.

How does coaching differ from counselling?

"People are like stained glass windows. They sparkle and shine when the sun is out, but when the darkness sets in, their true beauty is revealed only if there is a light from within."
- Elizabeth Kübler-Ross

Coaching is not primarily aimed at exploring the past but focuses mainly on the present and the future. It is action orientated and encourages people to become pro-active, self-responsible and creative - to build on their strengths and reframe their limitations.

How does it work

Coaching takes place over the telephone. This creates an effective and special rapport between coach and coachee and has the added advantage that no travelling is necessary so distance is no problem. We arrange regular weekly sessions to suit you so that the coaching has a momentum and the effects are cumulative. I also welcome email contact between sessions.

What is the next step

The best way to find out about coaching is to try it. Call me or email me to arrange a complimentary introductory session to experience for yourself how the coaching process works and for help in clarifying which parts of your life you feel coaching would most benefit. This session is a good way for both of us to ‘meet’ and to get a feel as to whether we work well together. The call would be for about 40 minutes and no fees are charged.
